An Explication is the most common approach for literary text. An explication of a poem  usually consists of three parts.

1. Retelling or Recap- making a summary or retelling the story of the poem.

2. An explanation of any difficut parta and exploration of ambiguous or double meanings. To do this simply "Finding"-difficulties or ambiguity in the passage, lines and stanza-leading you to stablish facts and to generate the meaning behind its passage.

3. The last part of explication is your final "take" on the meaning of the poem as a whole, your own expression.

Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening

 by: Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Okay! Considering Robert Frost poem,...a very easy story to summarized. A man is out of his woods. The dead of the winter is so quite. His horse wonders why he stopping there. He thinks he must go on for he has promises to keep even though he finds the woods are lovely, dark and deep. Thats the first part of the explication by simply re-telling the story of His poem.

The next approach is to find out what are the difficulty or ambiguous in the poem.

Well what is difficult or ambiguous about this poem? The author knows what it is.

* why he finds the woods are lovely, dark and deep?

* why does he need to remind himself that he has promises to keep before he goes home?

*Whose house was in the village anyway?

Well some critics ended it or suggested that the ambibuity of the meaning last the facts that maybe the man doesn't really want to go on into living, Maybe he finds the woods a draw of darkness: of finality, of death which is the pretty part emplication of darkness. But it can be read in the poem that ambiguous means we dont know the one way or the other. The suggestion could be there or maybe he was just tired in his way home and he was pull by the quite of  the idea of sleep and that he has the promises to keep and miles to go before sleeping.

The last part of approach when you find a lot of ambiguity and it seems too diffuclt to deal it already , then you have to draw your final meaning, your  final grasped of the poem as a whole.Your final take and thought of the poem. With these part of explication we find it very much interesting to hear about different ideas by each readers.

Well thats was my personal thoughts of the poem, yours could be good and much better.
