The day I started eating ampalaya Print E-mail

I love to eat vegetables. I love the nourishment they give me. When I was small, my mom used to tell me that vegetables would make me healthy and strong, same with what my elementary grade teacher always taught us. I would even smile remembering those nursery rhymes about vegetables which I used to recite in class. Indeed, everyone is right. Vegetables do make me strong, healthy and err, smart?

Eating vegetable has become my habit, but there is one vegetable I hate to eat: ampalaya. I really detest its bitter taste. It feels like I’m putting poison in my mouth every time a part of it lands in my tongue. This I carried on until I grew up and learned many things in life until I learned to love.

Just like vegetables, love made me strong, healthy and alive. Loving somebody made me happy to the extent that I wished I could halt the ticking of the clock while I was with my beloved. Having somebody to love, care and share passions with is an everyday bliss. Just like vegetables, love made my vision clearer, my bones stronger and even my cheeks rosier.

But life is indeed in a constant flux. The feeling of blessedness I got from loving somebody, like vegetables, got rotten and went to waste for reasons "she" and God only knows. Those clear vision, stronger bones and rosy cheeks I got turned to momentary blindness, weakness, daily tears and eye bags. I never got smart. My heart was broken. The gem which I polished and treasured was shattered into a billion microscopic pieces I could retrieve in vain. It hurt so bad that I wished to eat more vegetables again to replenish my lost vigor, which I did.

As I eat, I realize that eating vegetables is much better than loving somebody; no heartaches and guilt, just plain nourishment. And eating ampalaya, perhaps, is just like thinking of those bittersweet memories. I am eating ampalaya now. I wish I will be smarter this time.

i've had my ownshare of bittersweet memories as what you've said..but since i know already how bitter they taste, it won't hurt to give it another bite, right?hehehehe..tip ko lang, kun magkagat kaw, don't think nga pait tana, instead, think of the vitamins you'll get..in that way, you'll keep on wanting for more bisan pait or tam-is man ra.. hehehe!
