Historical BackgroundBugang was formerly the original name of this municipality before it was baptized and named Pandan. On or before 1654 when the Spanish colonists landed in this town, they asked from the natives any food they could give. One of the natives offered a basket of camote (sweet potato) saying in the local language "Dan" (that) pointing to the basket. When the colonist took it he exclaimed "Pan“. The natives heard the term and propagated it. Later, they formed these word: "PAN" and "DAN" from which PANDAN derived its name. Pandan, as an official name was adopted in the year 1654 from the Spanish noun "PAN" meaning bread, and from the Visayan demonstrative pronoun "DAN" which in Spanish signifies "ESE" meaning "THAT". Combining the words "PAN" and "DAN" formed "PANDAN“. Such name was preserved since the year of its foundation up to the present. Tourist Spots
