Historical backgroundThe town's name derived from the word “bugas” meaning clean rice and “lusong” the vernacular term for mortar. The Spaniards came to an abundant place and found friendly people, hard working, and lived simply. The fields are flourished with rice grains and other green plants. A Spaniard inquired about the name of the place to a native who was pounding rice in a wooden mortar. The native stood, bewildered for he did not discern a word what the stranger said. On the second thought he presumed that his unknown visitor might want to know what he had in front of him so he answered “bugas” pointing to the mortar. The Spaniard thought that his question was well answered and told his other companions about the buga and lusong. Thus, Bugasong came to be called its present name. Tourist Spots
