In 1732 the Agustinian priests were able to organize Sibalom into a parish - more than a hundred years since the colonization of Spanish Catholic Friars of Antique in 1581. Before becoming a parish Sibalom was just a “visita” of the Parish of Hamtic. Don Pedro Antang Gella was chosen to be the first gobernadorcillo of the town in 1751. Another gobernadorcillo, Don Rafael de Baladjay, played a prominent role in another breach of the Spanish peace in 1841. A Revolutionary Government with Pedro Gella as president and Macario Lotilla as vice-president was established in Sibalom in 1898 due to the abuses of the Spaniards. Macario Lotilla, formerly Chief Supply Officer of the Revolutionary Army became the first elected president (of what is mayor today) of Sibalom in 1902.
