Historical backgroundBarangay Malandog in Hamtic was the first barangay established by Datu Sumakwel and other Malayan Datus when they finally settled in Panay Island. Later, they discovered that the place was marshy and unsuitable for settlement so they transferred three kilometers South of Malandog. They called this place, "Hantik" after the humming big black ants, hantik-hantik that produce the sound "tik" when they bite. Hantik or Hamtic then became the first Malayan settlement after the barter of Panay between the Malayans and the Aetas. The town was created a district municipality by virtue of Executive Order No. 3 signed by the late President Ramon Magsaysay in 1954. On January 20, 1954, the town was formally separated from San Jose de Buenavista. Tourist Spots
