This is part of the Responsible Parenting Movement and Natural Family Planning (RPM/NFP) program of the Population Commission which aims to lower population growth through responsible parenting.
During the RPM/NFP here yesterday the municipalities of Anini-y, Tobias Fornier, Patnongon, Valderrama, Bugasong, Laua-an, and Tibiao got Php 150,000 each. While the towns of Hamtic and Pandan got Php 225,000. Sibalom being the largest municipality got Php 300,000. The initial release was 60% of the full amount. The 40% balance will be released later.
According to Governor Salvacion Z. Perez population management is the key towards sustainable development. She proudly added, that “here in Antique we have surpassed our target decrease in population growth rate which is currently at 1.19%.”
“We have to take hold of the population problem not only here in Antique but in the whole Philippines,” said Vice-Governor Cadiao. “It has been creating a very sad domino effect that when you have a large population, you also have many problems.” “There has been an intensified campaign to purposely lessen the burden of both the parents and the children,” said Mayor Joyce Roquero, the President of the League of Municipalities. “We believe that countering the population explosion starts with our awakening and decisive courses of action,” she said further.
