OPA Releases Fertilizer Discount Coupons Worth P14.3M

San Jose, Antique – The Department of Agriculture (DA) in coordination with the office of Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) has released fertilizer discount coupons worth P14.3 million to master listed farmers since July 21 this year.

Provincial Agriculturist Nicolasito Calawag said the farmers here have an allocation of 74,000 coupons with each coupon worth P250.00 The total coverage area provincewide is 27,250 hectares.

The fertilizer subsidy coupons entitle the farmer to buy fertilizer at any outlet of his choice as per agreed during the dealers meeting wherein Municipal Agriculturist were oriented on the mechanics of implementation.

The fertilizer subsidy aims among others to help farmers cushion the impact of increasing fertilizer cost and lessen production cost said, Calawag.

Master listing of farmers will last until October 31, 2008 and farmers are encouraged to avail of the subsidy to sustain rice production in spite of the recent calamity. (EA Abasquez/PIA)
