Prices of flour remained stable, like first class hard flour-Washington brand was sold in June and July 2008 at P 949.00 per bag of 25 kilos, 3rd class soft flour Amigo brand P855.00 per bag of 25 kilos, Mega brand P850.00 per bag, Gold key brand – P950.00 and the all purpose flour Wooden Spoon Brand P1,045 per bag.  No movement in prices from June to July explained Glen Fernando, Trade and Industry Development Specialist of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The DTI explained that an intensified price monitoring conducted daily has been in effect for prime and basic necessities including construction materials, following the declaration of the province under a state of calamity due to Typhoon Frank that hit Antique on June 21, Fernando said.

The results of daily monitoring showed that business establishments here complied with the automatic price ceiling imposed in view of the declaration of calamity to last for 60 days.  DTI for July had noted significant decreases on Blend 45 coffee (25 g) refill by 6.45 percent from P15.50 to P14.60 per pack, Argentina Meat Loaf (170 g) by 5.71 percent from P17.50 to P16.50 per can and Datu Puti Soy Sauce (360 ml) by 7.4 percent from P14.00 to P13.00 per bottle.

Fluctuations in prices of construction materials were noted like common wire nails 50mm and 100mm increased by 7.14 percent from P70.00 to P75.00 per kilo respectively.

Corrugated G.I sheets gauge 26 with thickness of .35mm Tamaraw brand increased by 7.69 percent from P32.50 to P35.00 per lineal foot.

G.I. Sheets corrugated gauge 31, Tamaraw Brand .2 mm increased by 13.79 percent from P29.00 to P33.00 per lineal foot, DTI revealed.

On steel bar 12 mm, the price decreased from P355.00 in July to P350.00 as of August 4, the report showed.

The monthly monitoring on cement APO brand indicated an increase from P195.00 per bag of 40 kilos in July to P196.50 as of August 4.  Another cement brand Excel increased from P192 in July to P194 per bag in August.

The changes in prices have been attributed to fluctuations in the acquisition cost, the DTI Specialist added.  (EA Abasquez/PIA)
