Communal Irrigation Systems to undergo rehab after Typhoon Frank Print E-mail

Irrigation facilities here were one of the badly damaged structures devastated by Typhoon Frank.

Out of the total 53 operational Communal Irrigation System (CIS) in Antique, 31 CIS having a total service area of  3,300 hectares were seriously affected and 11 CIS with 500 hectares were moderately damaged.  Out of the total 3,800 hectares of affected areas, 570 incurred crop damages with an estimated cost of P27,000,000.00 and affecting 815 farmers.

Among the severely stricken CIS are situated in the municipalities of  Valderrama namely Tigmamale, Valderrama, Pandanan, Boroc-boroc and Iglinab CIS and in San Remigio, Bugo, Banayan, Tubudan-Nagbangi and Agricula CIS.

Engr. Jose R. Oredina, the Provincial Irrigation Officer I reported that the extent of damage on these facilities includes variable damages on diversion dams, intake and canal structures, washed out or scoured canal embankments and heavy siltation on conveyance facilities due to soil erosion and landslides.  These variable damages on irrigation facilities are estimated to cost P30,000,000.00.

NIA-Antique is now hastening preparation of Program of Work for these irrigation facilities damages for possible release of funds for immediate restoration/repair of impaired irrigation systems.
