Long distance relationships require a special willingness and understanding that can test love like no other type of relationship can. It requires constant communication and a desire to continually create your relationship, using the only real tool you have... your words.

Honey, it's an uphill battle! it's going to be hard to maintain a relationship. You probably don't travel to see one another very often, and that makes it very hard.

My advice to you: don't overanalyze things, keep it simple. keep your communication, either thru mail, or phone. Talk to her about whatever you feel like talking to her about. Tell her about your day. Ask her what she thinks of a new movie that's out. Tell her a funny story. Ask her to tell you about her favorite childhood memory or her most embarrassing moment.
As long as you're happy, don't sweat it. As long as you don't find yourself interested in other girls or wanting to date around, you'll be fine. If that's not that case though, and you meet people in wherever you are right now, that you'd like to date, try moving the long-distance relationship to friends-only. You never know where life will take you, maybe you'll end up in the place where she is at, where you can give the relationship another chance.

As far as long distance relationships working out, it will be difficult but it will be worth it (if you trully love her).
